Supporting A Gift for the Future through your on-line auctions

Many eBay users are not aware how easy it is to make donations to their favorite charities when selling through on-line auctions. This page is set up to help eBay sellers, all ready familiar with using eBay, who would like to help our fund or any other charity registered with the on-line auction site.

Supporting charities when creating an on-line auction at eBay has many benefits. The most obvious benefit, of course, when you support our fund is the impact that the donation has on the kids helped by the charities that we support. Less well known is the fact that auctions marked as charitable on average sell for 40% higher than regular auctions for the same items. Everyone benefits, and the process is very simple.

How to Make Your Auction a Charitable One

Any auction on eBay can be designated as a charitable auction so long as a percentage of the final bid price is designated for a legitimate, recognized charity. The process is handled by an organization called MissionFish.

New: Setting up a charity auction was recently simplified so that it involves few steps beyond setting up any other type of auction on eBay. Anyone familiar with how to create an auction should have no trouble creating one that benefits charity. We have provided here a simple guide to help you though the extra steps you need to complete to turn your auction into a charitable one. These steps should take less than a minute of your time.

Step 1. Getting Started
  1. Go to eBays web site and begin creating your auction listing just as you would for any other auction.
  2. When you get to step 3, 'Pictures & Details', look for an option near the top of the page called 'Donate percentage of sale.'
  3. From the drop down list select the option 'Select a new nonprofit...' if doing this for the first time, or select a nonprofit you have donated to in the past.
  4. If you selected 'Select a new nonprofit' a new page will pop up asking you to search for your nonprofit. A Gift for the Future Children's Fund can be found under the 'A' link. You can also select from many other charities.
  5. Once you've selected the charity, select the percentage of the final bid price you would like to donate.
Step 2. After the Auction Ends
  • There's nothing extra to do. Accept the payment and ship the auction contents to the winning bidder.
  • eBay will send the donation amount to the charity and send a tax receipt to you. The donation amount will appear in your eBay invoice. If you elected to donate 100% of the final sale price, eBay will even refund the charge for hosting the auction back to the charity.
